What is – a Consultant ?
Consulting includes a broad range of activities. To summarize some of these activities, and for now, in terms of the professional and business area of expertise, a consultant can assist in gaining insight in areas such as competitive analysis, your corporate strategy, management and operations of your business, human resources and hiring practices, accounting and legal services (not to be confused with accounting or legal advice of course).
A further approach of a consultant is to gain insight and advise on business practices such as – initial approach, contracting, research and data collection, reaction, implementation, and so on. The purpose of such deep analyzing is to consider its purposes; gain clarity about your goals, which will certainly influence your success. The Harvard Business Review describes the hierarchy of consulting purposes:
1. Providing information to a client.
2. Solving a client’s problems.
3. Making a diagnosis, which may necessitate redefinition of the problem.
4. Making recommendations based on the diagnosis.
5. Assisting with implementation of recommended solutions.
6. Building a consensus and commitment around corrective action.
7. Facilitating client learning-that is, teaching clients how to resolve similar problems in the future.
8. Permanently improving organizational effectiveness.
How to succeed at the above? That is the task of a consultant. That’s what a consultant will do for you.
The above principles apply to your personal life as well and there is so much on this topic to write about how a Personal Consultant can help you in your every day life situations. Family. Friends. Job Opportunities. Buying a home or renting. Location of residence. Travel and so much more.
